Entry Requirements

The BE degree consists of four parts, each taking one year to complete.
The primary requirement for admission to the engineering degree is a high level academic record equivalent to a GPE of 3.7 (NZ UE Bursary mark of 300) either from a secondary school qualification or from previous study at tertiary level. More Information ...
Admission to Part I
Admission to Part I of the BE programme will be subject to places available up to a total intake of around 550, with a minimum entry requirement for NCEA not yet definite, (once the results of the first year of NCEA are known this will be defined) but will be similar to the requirement of an A bursary (300) of previous years or estimated GPE of 3.7. Subject to place availability, applicants below this achievment level may be considered based on academic record, subjects studied and possibly interview performance.
Following successful completion of Part I, students will select their specialisation and proceed to Part II.
The following qualifications may provide entry to Part II subject to academic record and availability of places.
- A completed BSc (or equivalent) with appropriate subjects and grades.
- The academic component of NZCE (or equivalent)
- Part I completion of the BE at Manukau Institute of Technology.

English Requirement
ALL students wishing to enter Engineering need to demonstrate a high standard of English with at least one of
- Minimum of grade 6 in 6th form certificate English
- 40% in Bursary English, History, History of Art, Classical Studies or Geography.
- 60% in Bursary Biology
- IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 575
- Or equivalent standard of examined English competence. More Information ...
Selection into Part II
All students wishing to enrol in Civil or Environmental Engineering and who pass the whole of Part I in the previous year will be guaranteed a place, subject to a maximum enrolment of 110. Selection, if necessary, will be based on academic performance in Part I. Students who pass all courses in Part I but do not gain a place in their preferred specialisation will be guaranteed a place in another specialisation. More Information ...
